Most remote companies have a flourishing culture when starting out. However, as their headcount grows to 20+, companies start facing difficulties with employee engagement and productivity.
Building a strong remote culture will get everyone on the same page to build community, connectivity, trust and better communication. Thus, boosting collaboration, knowledge-sharing, productivity and engagement (and reduces attrition!)
Cofounders and leaders already wear multiple hats and have competing priorities, so building a remote culture unintentionally gets overlooked. The Remote Culture Playbook guides founders to identify and empower current employees to drive their remote culture.
Strong cultures often lead to higher employee engagement, meaning employees are more invested in their work and motivated to contribute beyond their basic duties.
Companies with strong cultures also have significantly lower employee turnover rates, saving on recruitment and training costs, enhancing knowledge retention, and fostering a more stable workforce.
Stop spinning your wheels responding to turnover, low motivation, reduced productivity, communication breakdowns, employee complaints and increasing absenteeism.
With the remote culture playbook, you can empower a small group of employees to create and sustain your remote culture.
The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.
A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!
Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.
This playbook is for your business if:
Your employees are lacking motivation, having reduced performance and risk of attrition
Culture is important to you, but you don't have the capacity to run it yourself
You want to improve connectivity and knowledge sharing across your remote workforce
Want to empower and build up your key employees
The Remote Culture Playbook allows Owners, Cofounders and senior leaders to build and sustain a remote culture by leveraging their current staff.
The playbook will guide you on how to select your Culture Champions.
This is the most important step for the project sponsor. Selecting the right champions is crucial to the success of your remote culture.
(hint: do not select your Culture Committee based on roles only)
After you recruit your Culture Champions, we provide the tools needed to onboard and kickoff the playbook.
The Culture Champions will then run the playbook and start building your company’s remote culture immediately.
Your long-term involvement is minimal, allowing you to focus on other strategic initiatives.
Inside the Remote Work Playbook, we've included everything that is required for you and the Culture Committee:

The Remote Culture Playbook sets the foundations of your remote culture and creates a positive cycle of culture building.
The structures around collaboration and social activities will also scale as headcounts and locations grow. Outputs of the Culture Committee will also be used to onboard new joiners in future.
Why make the Remote Work Playbook?
When Sarah and I launched Kulcha, we both wanted to focus on helping small and mid-sized companies with making work better.
For 3.5 years (2020-2023) we worked with 40+ large global companies across 16 countries creating post-pandemic work solutions and along the way we learned a lot about what works and what doesn’t in building remote culture.
We wanted share what we learned with smaller companies that may not have the same resources as larger companies by creating accessible work and workplace playbooks.
We believe we can make a positive impact on both leaders and employees of these companies who want to make changes but don’t know where to start.
As we spoke to founders with remote workforces about their pain points, every single one talked about the lack of culture and connection. We knew the remote culture playbook was the first playbook we had to create.
The Process / Building the playbook:
The playbook originally started as more educational. However, we quickly learned from founders that knowledge isn’t their primary issue.
It’s that they couldn’t run the initiative themselves and their people didn’t know how.
As such, we spent several iterations evolving the playbook to focus on how existing employees with no experience on the topic could start building remote culture.
After 6 months, gathering feedback from 10 remote companies, continuous review of the end users experience, we’re finally confident that the Remote Culture Playbook will be able to help remote-first companies build their culture.
The playbook is a simple step-by-step process that has clear instructions for both the project sponsor and a small group of employees (called Culture Champions) that will lead the initiative.
